It is essential for notaries to understand their duties and responsibilities and to know that they assume potential personal liability when serving in a notary capacity. Notaries are required in many transactions, from witnessing signatures on legal documents like affidavits and wills to administering oaths. However, there are times when notaries are uncomfortable with their role and/or the transaction and must act to deter fraud. Focusing on matters that are important in the industry, this session will teach notaries to understand and correctly handle all of their duties and responsibilities.
This session will cover the following:
• Roles & purposes served by notary public
• Duties & responsibilities of notary public
• Most common errors made by notary public
• Personal liability of the notary public
• Reference to your state’s specific rules
